The Harry Potter books are my seven favorite books of all time. This is because J.K. Rowling has created a detailed world full of wonderful characters that is still alive and well, even after the last Harry Potter book has been published.
The world of Harry Potter just draws you in. There is a complete universe to get lost in whenever you don’t want to deal with the real world. The writing also makes you feel like you are in that world. At this point, I’m familiar with most of the Wizarding world and its inhabitants. All the characters are beautifully described, and over the course of seven books, you really get to know a lot of them. Harry, Ron, and Hermione, among many many more people, are almost like friends to me. Sometimes I like fictional wizards better than real people.
Another awesome thing about Harry Potter is that all the things that make it so awesome keep growing. J.K. Rowling writes more little books, like Quidditch Through the Ages and Tales of Beedle the Bard. She posts new things about the Wizarding world on Pottermore as well. Fans of Harry Potter can also imagine their own scenarios with their favorite characters, or add details that they feel Rowling missed, in fanfiction. No matter how terrible some of the fanfiction is, I think it’s an great concept, that people can take a story that they love and keep on adding to it. The story has kind of taken on a life of it’s own, which is a beautiful thing. I love that my favorite fictional universe will never have to stop growing. Call me crazy, but I’m going to keep waiting for my letter from Hogwarts.
P.S. If you haven’t read Harry Potter, please do. I promise, you will not regret it.
